Meet Quindara! She is an educator, yoga teacher, writer, creative, daughter, cuisinier, partner, and cat-mom! Quindara aims to understand and heal the problem that many people face, especially those that identify as women, regarding lack of self-care. She firmly believes pouring into oneself resets negative self-belief and worth, stress, and later prevents chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and even some cancers. In many marginalized communities, such as black and brown ones, women are expected to carry many weights and burdens to keep the family unit alive -- often times at the negligence of their own health (for example, 15% of African Americans have diabetes compared to 8% of white people. There are many barriers and systemic oppressions that have contributed to these health disparities, but one fact remains the same -- constant care for oneself evolves the mind, body, and spirit holistically allowing for recharge, resets, and restoration. As the great author, Audre Lorde once said, "Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” Quindara created Laven Bodycare as more than a line filled with body butter, face masks, and scrubs, Laven supports communities who need firm reminders that self-care is a vital tool to use to pour into oneself and is non-negotiable.
